  • Kathmandu-Russia and Iran held joint naval exercises in the Sea of Oman and the northern Indian Ocean on Thursday. Rear Admiral Hassan Maghsudlu, a spokesman for the joint exercises, said the aim of the exercises was to increase security and strengthen maritime cooperation.
According to the BBC, the joint exercises took place at a time when the United States is threatening to attack Iran. The United States has also deployed warships near Iran. However, indirect talks between the two countries are also ongoing.
Russia said on Thursday that tensions around Iran have increased more than ever due to the deployment of military resources in the Middle East. Russia also appealed to Iran and other parties to exercise restraint and caution.
It is noteworthy that Russia and Iran have a strategic partnership agreement, but it does not provide for mutual defense.
