Kathmandu - Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the half-brother of Britain's King Charles III, has been arrested. The BBC confirmed his arrest and released images of police cars arriving at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, England, this morning.
The incident came to light when Thames Valley Police said they were investigating a complaint that the former prince shared confidential information with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Queen Elizabeth II has four children. The eldest son, Charles III, is now king. Daughter Anne is a princess. Andrew, who has now been arrested, is the third child. He also has a brother.
Prince
Andrew has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
He was previously stripped of his title as a prince after his name repeatedly appeared in police investigations. He was expelled from his own palace, the Royal Lodge.
The file was also revealed by the Norwegian princess in connection with Epstein.
According to the BBC, some vehicles were seen at Sandringham in Norfolk this morning. The vehicles were unmarked police cars.
Abuse of royal power in sex crimes
This is the first time in modern British history that a prince has been arrested. He has been charged with a number of charges over his relationship with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who has involved powerful people in the US, Europe and Asia.
He has now been arrested on suspicion of abuse of public office. Thames Valley Police has issued a statement following Andrew's arrest.
Police say they are very interested in the person arrested.
The statement said - "As part of our investigation, we have today arrested a man in his 60s in Norfolk on suspicion of abuse of public office. Raids are underway at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk. The man is currently in police custody." In accordance with
national guidelines, the police are unable to release the name of the person arrested, the statement said.
Police officer Oliver Wright said, "We understand that there is a great deal of public interest in this matter. We will make the information public in due course."
The royal palace was furious
Andrew Mountbatten is the half-brother of Britain's King Charles III.
Buckingham Palace said the king's brother will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten (Windsor). Andrew has already been stripped of his other royal titles.
