Kathmandu - With the reduction in the price of aviation fuel, the fuel surcharge on trunk, remote and remote sector flights has been reduced.
As per the revised rates, the fuel surcharge has been reduced on major trunk routes such as Kathmandu-Pokhara, Kathmandu-Biratnagar, Kathmandu-Bhairahawa and Kathmandu-Nepalgunj.
After the Oil Corporation reduced the price of fuel from Rs 134 to Rs 128 per liter,
the fuel surcharge on the Kathmandu-Pokhara route has decreased from Rs 2,125 to Rs 2,030, while the Kathmandu-Biratnagar route has decreased from Rs 3,215 to Rs 3,075.
Similarly, passengers in remote and remote sectors will also benefit. The fuel surcharge has been reduced from Rs 40 to Rs 300 per passenger depending on the flight time and aircraft used on flights such as Kathmandu-Lukla, Biratnagar-Phaplu, Nepalgunj-Simikot and Dhangadhi-Bajura.
The revised fuel surcharge increases or decreases based on the flight costs of aircraft such as Jetstream and ATR. The fuel surcharge is calculated at a rate per seat per minute based on fuel consumption and fuel cost. Based on the formula set on that basis, the Airline Operators Association and the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal adjust the fuel surcharge. The new fuel surcharge rates will be effective from January 2, 2026. The previously applicable rates were valid until December 31, 2025. According to the airline service providers and regulatory bodies, the rates have been adjusted according to the changes in fuel prices in the international market. It is said that this will provide relief to passengers and help in sustainable air service operations. Domestic air passengers will get some relief.
