  • Kathmandu- KathmanduKathmandu Metropolitan City has issued a notice asking 107 schools that are not currently in operation to come into contact, warning that steps will be taken to shut them down if they fail to respond.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, the metropolis’ education department warned that it will move to cancel the approval of schools that fail to come into contact. The notice also includes a list of schools that were previously authorised to operate but are currently not in operation.

According to the notice, a decision taken by the Metropolitan City Education Committee on September 13 authorised the education department to conduct field inspections, verification and confirmation of such schools and to forward a proposal to the executive for cancellation of their approval.

The notice states that reports from field inspections carried out at different times found that the schools listed on the metropolis’ website were not operating and were not found on site.

If any of the listed schools are operating, the notice asks the concerned principals, operators, managers or trustees to appear at the education department with supporting documents within 15 days of the publication of the notice.

Failing this, the metropolis said it will recommend school closure to the executive in line with Section 13 of the Kathmandu Metropolitan Education Act, 2018, which allows cancellation of schools that are registered but not in operation.
